APAC Alabama was recently honored with an award from the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA). APAC Alabama’s Dothan Team won a Quality Pavement Award for the Hwy 53 project in Houston County, Alabama.

Each year, AAPA invites its asphalt paving contractor members to submit paving projects for quality in construction award consideration. A joint committee — made up of representatives from the Alabama Department of Transportation and the National Center for Asphalt Technology — carefully evaluates the submissions to select the top-scoring projects as winners in a variety of award categories.

APAC Alabama’s Hwy 53 project was listed in the category for two-lane highway resurfacing projects greater than 30,000 tons. Jeremiah Hall, Alex Murphree and Greg Foreman accepted APAC Alabama’s 2023 Quality Pavement award on behalf of the Dothan team at AAPA’s 63rd annual Quality Pavement Awards ceremony and officer installation luncheon on December 1st in Prattville, Alabama.

About the Hwy 53 Project

APAC Alabama’s Hwy 53 project stretched from Ross Clark Circle in Dothan, Alabama to the Florida state line. In addition to resurfacing the highway, the project also included widening a portion of the highway’s shoulder, starting from Hood Street in Cottonwood, Alabama to the Florida state line. APAC Alabama began the work in late February 2023, and the project was completed the following summer.

About the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association

Established in 1959, AAPA is a nonprofit trade association whose mission is to encourage the use of asphalt as a paving material and to further the improvement of the hot mix asphalt paving industry. In its work to continuously improve the quality and speed of construction of hot mix asphalt pavements, AAPA strives to provide Alabama with what it considers to be one of the longest lasting, smoothest, most cost-effective pavements available. Today, approximately 98 percent of Alabama highways are paved with hot mix asphalt.
